Summer is coming and that’s music to our ears! And speaking of music, how about planning to attend one (or more!) of the many music festivals our province has to offer?
Since we’ve been connecting people and communities in Alberta for almost 40 years, we’ve got a few miles under our belts and we think we know all the best things to see and do. Today, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite summer music festivals that are definitely worth the trip. We’ll even give you a ride!
Sled Island is one of the most unique festivals in Canada! Since 2007, Sled Island has brought together an eclectic collection of music, art, comedy and film that happens over a 5 days period in over 35 venues around Calgary. Country Thunder is the premier Country Music Festival! If you love Country music, this is the event for you. The 3-day event takes place at Prairie Winds Park in the NE area of Calgary and features the hottest in country music. 3. South Country Fair (Fort Macleod: July 21 -23)
From performing art to live music to spoken word to singer/songwriter competitions, South Country Fair should definitely be on your hit list. Expand your cultural horizons in Southern Alberta at this three-day, camping-style, old-world outdoor folk music festival.
If Electronic Dance Music is your thing, then Chasing Summer is the festival for you! Taking place over the Heritage Day Long Weekend, Chasing Summer is an 18+ outdoor festival experience. Chasing Summer celebrates Calgary’s important place in the global music and arts landscape by bringing together some of the world best electronic artists for an unforgettable weekend of sun and dancing. This year’s festival features some amazing artists including Tiesto, Zedd, and Infected Mushroom.
5. Edmonton Folk Music Festival (Edmonton: August 10 – 13)
Edmonton Folk Festival has been happening since 1980 and with the help of over 2000 volunteers, has grown into one of the world’s leading folk music festivals. This year’s line-up includes Martyn Joseph, Valerie June and the Juno award winning City and Colour. You won't want to miss it!
