August 18th (Galt Gardens, Lethbridge, AB)
Lethbridge seems to have a little bit of something for everyone this summer, and if your musical tastes are more of the neon-glowing, bass booming, electronic side of life, then pack up your most eclectic festival garb and head to the Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival. Featuring three stages at the Galt Gardens, and showcasing local and regional electronic music artists, this is a FREE, nonprofit and all-ages event. Food, drink and artisan vendors, beer gardens, splash-park, and a kid’s zone are just a few of the accompanying attractions that you can experience in-between dancing up a storm. www.lemf.ca
Whoop Up Days
August 21st – August 25th (3401 Parkside Drive South, Lethbridge, AB)
Stroll down the midway and take in the food and fun-filled booths, and win prizes at this annual rodeo and festival, happening over 5 full days at the end of this month. Combined with a tradeshow, rodeo, music, and entertainment, this week will inject some yee-haw into your post-Stampede blues! There won’t be a dull moment because between the Farmers Market and Bucking Barrels events are live music performances you won’t want to miss, by revered Canadian bands like The Sheepdogs and the Road Hammers. www.exhibitionpark.ca/events/whoop-up-days-family-festival/
August - March (Fort McMurray, AB)
Speaking of brilliant events around the province, we’d be doing wanderlusters everywhere an injustice if we didn’t mention some of the dazzling shows put on by Mother Nature herself. One of which is the radiant lights that dance upon the northern sky in Fort McMurray. The Northern Lights bring many visitors to the area to catch a glimpse of the otherworldly veils of purple, green and pink. Noted to start in late August and often continuing into March every year, there are a few tourist excursions with packages beginning in September that can make a whole trip out of this supernatural pursuit. http://www.fortmcmurraytourism.com/explore-wood-buffalo/northern-lights
