To live sustainably, you should strive to live within the limits of the available physical, natural and social resources in ways that helps living systems continue to thrive forever. These lifestyles produce less waste and use up fewer resources through energy-efficient systems, green energies and products and recycling.

You can learn how you can get involved in sustainability efforts during Sustainability Awareness Week (SAW) from October 24 to October 28 at the University of Alberta North Campus, Augustana Campus and Campus Saint-Jean, as well as at MacEwan University City Centre Campus. This week of free events helps you discover more about sustainability and how you help protect our environment.

Red Arrow is participating in Sustainability Awareness Week as a sponsor and will be providing 6 round trips between Calgary & Edmonton to be used in a prize pack for student participation in the events. We are also providing about 25 round trip passes to get students from across Alberta to the Summit.

About Sustainability Awareness Week

Students, staff, alumni, and community members are welcome to attend a wide range of events that explore environmental, social, and economic issues related to sustainability. Led by the Office of Sustainability, many campus and community groups have worked together to design walking tours, speaker panels, lectures, workshops and more to help you better understand what sustainability truly means and why it is vital to our planet’s future.

From used book swaps to designing sustainable classrooms, water conservation to ethical eating, everyone can find something of interest during SAW. Plus, at each SAW event you attend, you can also enter to win a prize pack worth more than $300.

SAW is just one facet of the University of Alberta’s sustainability efforts. The university also conducts research into sustainable practices and continuously strives to create a more sustainable campus through recycling, sustainable purchasing initiatives and green building design. In addition, they offer community outreach events throughout the year that inform the community about the many ways they can live a more sustainable life.

This week, find out more about how you can help protect our planet. Check out the full list of SAW events and learn more sustainability efforts on the University of Alberta’s campuses by visiting the Office of Sustainability’s website.

If you're on campus, be sure to stop by our booth and say hello.  You can also register for the prize giveaway and some great schwag.
