Take it from us, Alberta always has really cool things going on in the summer and Fort Mac is no different. Being on the road as much as we are, we know some of the hot spots, so we’ve rounded up four great reasons to head up to the Gateway to the North this month.

1. Dream Catchers Musical

Take hip hop, spoken word and folk. Blend it with contemporary and Indigenous dance, choose 26 of the most diverse and exciting young actors from across the country and experience The Dream Catchers. The show is a vibrant music and dance filled spectacle that explores the dreams of young Canadians.

Where: Anzac Recreation Centre

2. Oil Sands Discovery Centre

The Oil Sands Discovery Centre in Fort McMurray is located in the heart of the world's biggest single oil deposit - the Athabasca Oil Sands. The Centre is an educational facility committed to increasing public awareness and knowledge about the oil sands. Go to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre and experience the history, science, and technology of the oil sands. It’s the closest you can get without boots and a hard hat. Open Daily.

If looking at the oil sands from the ground just isn’t enough for you, try getting a bird’s eye view with Phoenix Heli-flight. Hop in a state of the art helicopter for an exclusive tour of Fort McMurray and the adjacent oil sands. This experience is rated as one of the top Things to Do on TripAdvisor, so you won’t want to miss it! Photo Credit: Phoennix Heli-flight

4. East Coast Garden Party

What is it about parties where everyone ends up in the kitchen? Well, in Newfoundland, usually more and more friends show up so people have to move outside. And that’s where the East Coast Garden Party started. Feel like you're back east with fresh seafood, having the kids entertained at the kid’s zone and of course by watching some great live music.

Where: Snye Point Park
When: August 25 and 26

And remember, half the fun of any destination is the journey to get there. Make the most of your travel time by sitting back in a comfy seat, enjoying free wifi, snacks and maybe even taking in a movie - arriving fully revived and refreshed.
