Make This Summer’s Road Trip a Breeze; 5 Tips for Highway Driving.

There’s nothing that fulfills a wholesome Canadian summer more than hitting the road for some out of town adventures. Whether that be a road-trip to your favorite summer music festival or a quick jaunt to hook up with friends, we've collected a few pointers for the roads ahead to help reduce stress… and maximize fun.

1. Plan Ahead (…or plan on the way with us!)

It sounds obvious, but in the midst of summer excitement, it can be easy to get carried away without a blueprint. Sure, sometimes spontaneous summer plans can effortlessly materialize and go off without a hitch. But let’s face it, careful planning, research, and considerations can go a long way. Not only does it help you save money and time, but putting in the effort to plan can ensure you don’t miss out on any attractions or fun-filled events. A simple Google search can go a long way, and taking time to read reviews, travel blogs and recommendations will be sure to highlight the things you don’t want to miss.

While we would all love to have the time to be able to plan ahead, sometimes it just isn’t in the cards for our busy lives. Ride with Red Arrow instead, and plan your weekend away while leaving the driving to us. Enjoy complimentary WiFi and power supply on-board, and plan as-you-go!

2. Be Patient on Busy Highways

At some point or another, we’ve all been caught in highway congestion amidst the long-weekend dash to get out of town. And we’ve all probably felt the pressure to get where you’d rather be, faster! Impatient driving behaviours like tailgating and speeding are linked to higher collision rates. Collision statistics reveal that 27% of fatalities and 19% of serious injuries involve speeding—so make sure to take your time.

Something that may help to pass time or quell impatience in slower moving traffic, is ensuring that you’re prepared. Pack a snack, bring some music or an audio-book and leave early, giving yourself extra time to reach your destination.

3. Bring Road Snacks

We've all been there. Feeling your stomach grumble when you’re out in the middle of a vast Canadian highway, 60 kms away from the closest gas station. Feeling full and content can help you stay focused on the road, so it’s a great idea to pack up some healthy, energy-rich snacks to keep you fuelled.

Luckily, if you’ve opted to ride Red Arrow, we’ve got your hunger covered. Complimentary snacks and refreshments are provided on every Red Arrow experience, so you can dig in and enjoy the ride.

4. Maintain, maintain, maintain

There’s nothing that throws a wrench in the gears like not maintaining the gears themselves. A little bit of preventative maintenance on your vehicle can go a long way, and there’s no better time to make sure everything is up to code then before you head out on the highway. Driving at higher speeds increases the likelihood of damage in the case of an accident. Stay on top of maintenance, stay safe, and drive with confidence!

5. Avoid high gas prices (Beat the pump with Red Arrow!)

With gas prices this summer predicted to hit 10-year highs across much of the country, there’s never been a better time to beat the pumps and book your next trip with Red Arrow. Cruising in our coaches will see you enjoying many of our luxurious features such as spacious reclining leather seats and fold down tray tables.
